Christmas Reflections

The Christmas season is a time of great joy and celebration. Unfortunately, for many of us, the added festivities on the calendar – combined with year-end workloads at work, school, and home – can quickly pile up and steal that joy. This year, my husband and I decided to give each other an experience instead of gifts for Christmas. We were able to get away for a few nights at the beginning of December, escaping the chaos and giving ourselves a chance to reflect. If you’re also struggling to keep up with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I want to encourage you with a few ways to find joy this season – in both your personal and financial life.

Reflect on the Year

December can fly by, and before we know it, we are hitting the ground running in January without pausing to give thanks for the year and its many blessings. As my husband and I reflected on 2025, we fondly remembered personal and financial successes, life milestones, travel, and quality time spent with family and friends. In your personal and financial life, do not get so caught up in chasing the next thing that you forget to celebrate the wins you have already achieved.

Avoid Comparison in the Current Season

You have likely heard the saying, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” It is easy to get caught up in what feels like “enough” financially, especially in today’s age of social media. This Christmas, define what “enough” means to you and your family. Continually chasing wealth without purpose, or to keep up with the Joneses, can lead to unhappiness. Everyone’s life goals and financial journeys are different, so focus on being thankful for what you have. I found a powerful mindset shift is through charitable giving or volunteering during the holidays to help those less fortunate.

Consider Your Values for the Next Year

Remember, money is a tool to live a rich life – not just numbers in an account. Use it for what you truly value: experiences, giving to causes you care about, achieving goals, or creating financial freedom. Spend time this holiday season considering your values with your spouse, kids, or even just yourself. This intentionality will help guide how you allocate your resources in the coming year to live a life that feels truly rich.

Setting aside a few minutes for reflection, gratitude, and intentional planning has helped me reclaim joy this holiday season, and I hope it does the same for you.

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas filled with peace and prosperity in the new year!
